Situation
In June, Bird College discontinued its role as Music Hub & Facilities Provider for Bexley overnight, effectively removing instrumental provision & tuition for 3000 primary and many secondary pupils, ceasing its choirs, orchestras, bands, ensembles & performance opportunities for young & old. SRC & FBM aim to solve the short term funding problem & maintain basic provison until a permanent solution is found by the Arts Council & local agencies. SRC will continue the Bexley Young Musician awards.
Solution
Young peole in the UK exhibit some of the poorest mental wellbeing worldwide. Research shows music is vital for language development, mental and physical wellbeing. The SRC Benevolent Trust will work with our MPs, Bexley Council, FBM & local agencies to raise public awareness, maintain youthful enthusiasm and raise funds to ensure the continued availability of music tuition, provision and recreation for all ages in the area.
