Situation
Leicester’s hospitals run one of the largest children’s acute service in the country and have the second-highest number of specialists for children. Yet, the East Midlands is the only region in England that doesn’t have a dedicated children’s hospital. These services are spread across two hospital sites and mixed in with adult services. This can delay diagnosis and treatment, increase complications, and increase a child’s length of stay.
Solution
We have launched an appeal to build and equip a new state-of-the-art children's hospital that will transform the services and do our children proud. The first step is to relocate our world-renowned children’s heart services, including the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, from Glenfield Hospital to the Leicester Royal Infirmary’s Kensington Building. It's our chance to make the expert care we give, even more effective and efficient for the amazing young patients and their families, who rely on us.
