Give a Book is a charity that promotes books and the pleasure of reading in the hardest places. Our main areas of work are in schools, prisons and with disadvantaged children and young people throughout the UK.Our core belief is that to pass on a good read-to give a book-is a transaction of worth.

Numerous studies show that poor reading skills are inextricably linked to economic disadvantage and reduced life possibilities. Give a Book aims to help change this by working with others to inspire children & adults to read for pleasure. Reports show the long term and wide-ranging benefits of reading for pleasure. We offer targeted solutions to encourage an enjoyment of reading. Our main areas of work are in schools, prisons and with disadvantaged children & young people across the UK.
Solution
We have identified that supporting reading projects for children from socially and economically disadvantaged areas is an effective way to tackle inequality of opportunity and reduced life possibilities. Our projects in schools and prisons provide children who often fail to engage with reading and its associated benefits with access to and engagement with books. Our projects supply specially chosen books, book bags, other reading and writing materials, expertise and volunteers where appropriate.
