Human rights defenders – people who take a stand against injustice and human rights abuses - are all too often at risk. Their work can make them vulnerable – governments, businesses, armed groups, police and security services, even members of their own communities can attack them for speaking out and questioning authority. Globally, attacks, abductions, and even assassinations are all on the increase.
Solution
Solidarity with human rights defenders will change the world. PBI works with over 1,000 activists and grassroots movements (which benefit around 1 million of the world’s most marginalised individuals) in some of the world's most dangerous countries. We stand with defenders at-risk to keep them safe and support them to increase their capacity, monitor their security, and improve their psychological wellbeing, and show them they're not alone. Our support saves lives.
