We work with vulnerable young people in North London who can't find work. Over 90% experience at least one indicator of disadvantage:criminal record, low educational attainment or a mental health issue. They lack money and other resources, absence of supportive relationships and positive expectations from family and friends. This sense of hopelessness leads all too many into gangs, addictions and withdrawal from normal society. Their challenges will be compounded by coronavirus.

We run the Spear Programme for up to 100 young people a year. This Programme is in 2 parts: Spear Foundation which lasts for 6 weeks and equips the young people with the skills and attitudes to find work. Spear Career then provides a year's support to help them find sustainable work. They learn how to write CVs, communicate and interview effectively and they develop positive mind sets and build resilience which will be essential post lockdown. They also find hope.
