Children with brain injury are more vulnerable to infections. In the wake of Covid-19, with shielding & social distancing & after months in hospital, these children need laughter & fun. Our play team & music therapists have adapted to continue to give this vital support whilst keeping children safe.

Situation
Children with brain injury have had their lives turned upside down. Many are far from home & now with Covid-19 some are without their families, confined to a bedroom, frightened by PPE, without outings to look forward to. These children are learning to live with their “new” selves & coping with rehabilitation, pain, fatigue & anxiety. They will need protection long after Covid-19 guidance changes but they also have a right to be children: to play, explore & have fun. Please help us to help them
Solution
Our play & music teams quickly adapted, keeping children safe & reassured at a frightening time whilst delivering rehabilitation: from teddies in face masks, to sensory stories with rice on hands to explain germs & singing whilst washing hands. New tablets with assistive technology are vital: from socially distanced bingo, virtual yoga, learning to make their own play lists & keeping in touch with family. Play & music are giving the children lots of much needed fun & laughter despite Covid-19.
