This campaign has now closed

In 2021 the Vision Foundation, London’s sight loss charity, will be 100 years. To mark this anniversary, we will launch our biggest campaign to date, and in doing so tackle the unacceptable unemployment rates within the sight loss community.

    Situation

Unemployment of visually impaired people remains unacceptably high, with 1 in 4 partially sighted people of working age in employment, and just 1 in 10 registered blind people in employment. What’s more, 30% of blind and partially sighted people no longer in work said they could have continued in their job given the right support. Public awareness also needs improving. A Vision Foundation commissioned You Gov survey also identified only 6% of the public think a blind person could do their job.

    Solution

We will invest in the most impactful employment projects, training initiatives and tailored support workshops, across London, helping the sight loss community compete in the open employment market. We will shine a light on sight loss talent exposing and overcoming barriers facing them. We will inform and empower companies to attract and retain sight loss talent and raise awareness of the sight loss community’s versatility through showcasing stories of role models who are succeeding.
