At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic we saw a 60 per cent fall in urgent cancer referrals. Now more than ever, earlier diagnosis is crucial. We will deliver GP training online, develop new content and new ways to reach GPs and health professionals to help them spot the signs of ovarian cancer

Delays in ovarian cancer diagnosis costs lives. 11 women die of ovarian cancer daily and we are now seeing delays, changes and cancellations to diagnosis, surgery and treatment due to Covid-19. This will not only impact negatively on survival but also on mental health. During lockdowns women are unsure about whether to discuss their symptoms with their GP. While GPs are adapting to a new skillset of remote consultations.

By helping GPs suspect ovarian cancer, urgent referrals will be made sooner. We will provide online GP training, launch a GP website hub and develop bite size content. This will be complemented by our symptoms awareness raising encouraging women to go to their GPs. This will help GPs recognise the symptoms over a remote consultation and ensure that women stand a better chance of being diagnosed quickly and referred for diagnostic tests, therefore increasing chances of survival.
