Stray dogs are a common sight in Cyprus, usually they are not neutered. The charity provides shelter, medical care and neutering of the dogs in its care. There is no state help in Cyprus where the dogs are seen as a nuisance and face poor treatment, even culling. The situation in Cyprus has received much news coverage in recent years. Without our help these dogs face an uncertain future and are vulnerable to disease, starvation and abuse, however this help results in large veterinary bills.

JCDR is run by volunteers in Cyprus and in the UK. They help as many dogs as possible, recently stepping in to run a rescue operation for an animal hoarder where 16 dogs had been subjected to years of neglect before their owner died. Alongside this, normal rescue and rehoming has continued, despite the pandemic. Many of the dogs in the care of the charity are pregnant, all dogs that are old enough are neutered before being rehomed. The charity rehomes roughly 100 dogs per year.
