Situation
The East End of London was hit particularly hard by C-19, with disproportionate numbers of deaths in our local British-Bangladeshi communities. Children and Young People had their education disrupted, with few outlets for creativity to boost their learning and look after their well-being. As they get back to education, schools anticipate some children finding 're-entry' difficult, as they learn how to navigate a new world while processing the traumatic period through which they have lived.
Solution
Spitalfields Music, working in partnership with our neighbourhood schools & Tower Hamlets Arts & Music Education Service (THAMES), will offer musical opportunities for young people in communities hit by C-19. We will provide creative workshops linked to the PSHE curriculum at KS2 which are co-designed with young people, & run The Bigger Sing, a way for young people across Tower Hamlets to work with professional musicians before mounting celebratory performances as part of Spitalfields Festival
