MS is an auto-immune condition which attacks the myelin sheath (the protective layer around nerves) in the brain and spinal cord. MS is often thought to be an older person’s condition, but in fact it is the most common disabling neurological disease of young adults in the UK. People are most likely to be diagnosed with MS in their 30s and 40s and it affects more women than men. There are roughly 3,500 people living with MS in Kent and Medway, with around 15 people being diagnosed each month.

High Dose Oxygen Therapy is a treatment that can alleviate the symptoms of MS. People with MS regularly enter a chamber and breathe pure oxygen for one hour under moderate pressure. They report this treatment improves mobility, gait and bladder control, helps to relieve pain, fatigue and reduces feelings of depression. Ultimately, it can help individuals keep as active as possible for as long as possible, sustaining their social and financial independence and supporting their general well-being.
