Manna Microfinance is a project in South Sudan, one of the world's poorest countries. Women receive small loans to start and grow small businesses and provide for their family. In a country suffering from the effects of conflict, it is a great platform for women to lift themselves out of poverty.

Ranking second lowest on the UN’s Multidimensional Poverty Index, South Sudan is one of the poorest countries in the world with little opportunity for employment. Moreover, it suffered from a civil war from 2013 to 2018 in which close to 400,000 people died. It also has the second most corrupt public sector in the world, resulting in acutely substandard education and healthcare provision. Close to 1 in 100 mothers die in childbirth and 1 in 10 children die before their fifth birthday.
The above issues combine to form severe challenges for families working hard to survive. With many fathers absent or deceased during conflict, women are left with the responsibility of providing for dependants. This is where Manna Microfinance comes in, offering a sustainable foundation upon which women can build a thriving business. Past beneficiaries have built houses and paid school fees for their children, resulting in life-changing positive impacts which can last for generations.
