We want to provide music making activities to children who attend Action for Refugees in Lewisham giving them opportunities to have fun, be creative and build their confidence with experienced teachers. We will support marginalised children to continue to have a creative life in spite of Covid-19.

    Situation

We support young refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants in south London to develop music making skills. Fairbeats children experience complex challenges including insecure housing situations, economic deprivation and parental mental health issues, and as a result are disproportionately affected by the Covid-19 crisis. They have limited opportunities for music education & creative fun. There are no other sustained music projects for primary aged refugees & new migrants in Lewisham.

    Solution

Fairbeats will run free, inclusive sessions for children to gain real musical skills that they can take into the wider world and the rest of their lives. We will lead children musical experimentation, risk-taking and creative fun within the security of an expertly facilitated, safe and supportive space. Fairbeats children who can be marginalised in mainstream settings will be given the opportunity to learn and to continue to have a creative life in spite of Covid-19.
