People with albinism (PWA) are an abused minority throughout Africa, shunned from public life and targeted for their body parts in witchcraft-related violence. To protect and empower this vulnerable group, Standing Voice delivers projects in health, education, advocacy and economic empowerment.

Across Africa, albinism is poorly understood and the subject of myriad myths and superstitions. 212 people with albinism have been murdered, and 609 attacked, across 29 countries since 2006. Ostracised and hunted because of their skin colour, people with albinism are excluded from services like education and healthcare. The population faces a skin cancer crisis and chronic economic insecurity in addition to the threat of witchcraft-motivated violence.

Our charity works holistically, matching the needs of PWA with a diversity of programmes in health, education, advocacy and economic empowerment. We operate clinical networks to treat low vision and prevent skin cancer; relocate children with albinism from segregated institutions to inclusive schools and universities; and rehabilitate hundreds of adults through inclusive training and apprenticeships. We amplify the voices of PWA and equip them with the tools to reclaim their place in society.
