St Joseph's Hospice would like to create an additional patient room increasing capacity from 29 to 30 rooms. The additional patient room will enable us to better meet the needs of the community for many years and will provide patients and families with a more equitable access to palliative care.

St Joseph's Hospice currently has 29 private patient bedrooms, all of which are continually occupied as we serve a population of 150,000 within the boroughs of West Lancashire, Sefton, Liverpool and Knowsley. We are often inundated with requests from the community to admit patients who require End of Life Care (EoLC) and/or support with symptom management. On average patients spend 42 days with us.Unfortunately we can't always meet demand and have to turn patients away.

Patients tell us that our hospice is like home from home where they feel safe and supported. An additional patient room will enable us to provide compassionate care for 10 more patients per year which includes clinical, emotional, and spiritual support. We will also support their families. Annually, 210 patients will benefit from admission to St Josephs Hospice where we can ease symptoms including nausea, pain, anxiety and breathlessness and facilitate a calm, dignified, respectful death.
