OCB is committed to serving the most vulnerable and isolated in the city, meeting people’s most basic needs at the community level regardless of age, background or beliefs. Funds raised will support our eight core programmes ranging from community housing to food provision for the most vulnerable.

Situation
In East Sussex, the number of homeless households has increased by 38% in the last 4 years, the number of over-50’s suffering from loneliness is set to reach two million across the UK by 2025/6 and, at week 5 of COVID lock-down, it was revealed that 350,000 children across the UK had not had enough to eat, with 238,000 skipping meals because their families had run out of food. Our innovative and community-based programmes are tailored towards meeting these and other needs in our community.
Solution
Some of the projects we run include: a community housing project that tackles homelessness and vulnerability through providing a home, community meals and holiday school feeding programmes aimed at reducing the burden of hunger in our city. We provide employment skills and barista training designed to tackle youth unemployment, and we also initiated an isolation tackling project, Table Talk, to create safe spaces to socially connect individuals and simply get people talking.
