Situation
Over nine years of conflict in Syria have devastated the country and shattered the lives of millions. Syrians have lost their families, homes and jobs as well as basic services. Many skilled professionals (notably doctors, nurses and teachers) have left the country, leaving behind a vacuum of skills in communities which can barely sustain themselves. It is vital that these people are not forgotten and left without access to proper education and health services.
Solution
We believe in giving Syrians a hand up not a hand out and in the dignity gained by empowering local Syrian communities. This is why we focus on funding the salaries of Syrian medical and teaching professionals, so that they can earn a living for themselves and their families at the same time as providing vital services to their local community. We fund a Primary Health Clinic in northern Syria, serving a population of 10,000 people and a school for 300 Syrian refugee children in Lebanon.
