This project works intensively with young people who are involved with or at risk of being involved with crime. Through positive activity and mentoring we aim to turn young people away from crime and offending and into upstanding members of their community, being the best they can possibly be.

Situation
Wandsworth combines areas of affluence with severe poverty. In these areas there are high levels of child poverty, high numbers of 16-18s not in education, employment or training and high unemployment. These areas have high levels of childhood obesity and smoking and drug use is prevalent, life expectancy is lower than average. Young people growing up in deprived areas have higher exposure to violence and a higher chance of offending. Knife crime and gang involvement are both serious issues.
Solution
We use sport and mentoring to engage young people and create opportunities for them. Sport has been shown to be a successful and cost-effective way of tackling youth crime and gang violence as well as have a positive impact on physical and mental health.
