Lollard Street Adventure Playground offers free play sessions for children aged 6 to 16. We run a child-centred free adventurous play space in the heart of Kennington where children and young people can come and explore, create and build new friendships.

Situation
The coronavirus crisis has brought an unprecedented change to the lives of children and young people in Kennington, which is in Lambeth. Our playground is based in an area that is among the 20% most deprived in the country. Most children will have had only limited opportunity to be outside and play during the lockdown, particularly with their friends. Yet play and fresh air is a vital to children’s wellbeing.
Solution
Every summer throughout the school holidays Lollard Street Adventure Playground usually offers free play sessions for children between 10.30am and 4pm. We usually get around 80 children each day and sometimes have to turn them away due to staff limitations. We’re also open three times a week after school during term time. Once lockdown restrictions for playgrounds end and it's safe to do so, we will move to reopen the adventure playground to provide as many children as we can with free play in the fresh air.
