    Situation

During the COVID lockdown, children from refugee/asylum -seeker families are likely to experience increased incidence of hunger. Families will not have access to free food and drinks at their weekday school, AFRIL Foodbank café, AFRIL Saturday School and many drop-in services are closed. Household bills will increase. These parents already face food poverty due to destitution. Social distancing places increased stress on refugee family budgets to access affordable food and home activities.

    Solution

AFRIL will support 60 children by our virtual foodbank during the COVID crisis/ transition to our fully restored foodbank service. Parents will get a weekly food bag for breakfast and 1 family meal a day. We will provide fresh fruit, veg, toiletries, washing powder, toilet rolls, baby and sanitary goods to support weekly budgeting /reduce costs. We will provide virtual home learning activities including study, exercise and art. Our emergency grants will support families in acute risk/hardship.
