Communities in Ngara, Tanzania are seeking to tackle low enrolment of children in primary and secondary school. There is deep level of poverty in the community and most families are unable to afford the cost of educating children, even though tuition is free at primary school. For orphans and fatherless children living with relatives (eg.grandparents), education is out of reach and low priority, compared with food and shelter. Kagera region has the highest numbers of AIDs orphans in Tanzania.
Our aim is to educate 150 children in primary and secondary school. They will receive full scholarship and welfare support, including educational school needs (school uniforms, sweaters, shoes, stationary), community health insurance (cover extends to their families), a goat or pig for income generation. The offspring of the animal will be sold for income and goats produce milk which can be sold. Children attending secondary school located 5 Kilometres or more from home will be given a bicycle.
