    Situation

When HIV infected children in India lose their parent’s they are extremely vulnerable, without the care of extended family they are at risk of living on the streets, abuse & early death. However, many extended families live in extreme poverty where caring for an additional child with health issues is a huge pressure. Children are malnourished & unable to access preventative & emergency medical care. Some families are simply unable to care for children, with children at risk of being abandoned.

    Solution

125 extended families will be given a food rations card to access free nutritious food for children at specified shops, including a daily ration of milk, an egg, vegetables,& banana ensuring children have a nutritious diet. Monthly health monitoring will track children’s growth, highlight health concerns, & provide care giver support. Access to preventative care, will ensure children receive timely correct medication & treatment, & additional medical support for emergency care is also available.
