We know learning transforms the lives of prisoners. PET needs your support to ensure more people in prison can access distance learning opportunities and related advice and mentoring services. We help those who cannot afford to pay for educational opportunities themselves but who want to progress.

Situation
Reoffending costs £1.5 billion a year, and prisons in England and Wales are overcrowded and understaffed, with alarming levels of violence and self-harm. Prison provided education is often basic, with limited opportunities to progress or to learn subjects which address personal interests or career aspirations. With little standard careers advice in prisons, prisoners are often at a loss to know what steps they should take to improve their chances of securing a job after release.
Solution
PET will provide advice and guidance relating to distance learning and provides funding for the courses which will best enable prisoners to meet their goals. We will undertake the course administration, ensuring courses are ordered and reach the prisoner, dealing with any problems within the prison and any issues that may arise, for example if a prisoner moves prisons. Our provision is proven by the Ministry of Justice to reduce reoffending and improve chances of employment.
