Christmas is an especially difficult time for prisoners and their children. Angel Tree lessens the devastation experienced as a result of parental absence by not only helping families to connect and build relationships, but also by providing children with much-needed joy.

Situation
Angel Tree tackles the separation of children from their parents at Christmas time, remembering the prisoner and their families during the seasonal period. Families and children are recognised by Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS, formerly NOMS) as one of the pathways to reducing reoffending.
Solution
In 1994, when Prison Fellowship launched its first Angel Tree programme in one prison; it delivered 60 gifts. Last year, this had grown to 2,601 parents in 91 prisons, sending gifts to 4,886 children. When a child knows he or she is loved and thought about through a simple act of receiving a gift, that’s priceless. The dedication, faithfulness and determination of our volunteers to serve God, prisoners and their families is so heart warming and encouraging.
