The House of Angels is run by nuns of the Missionaries of Charity in Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa in Ethiopia. The project works with the most desperate in Ethiopia, acting as a both a hospice for the dying and an orphanage for children many of whom have lost their parents through HIV/AIDS.

  • The Ethiopian health care system is among the least developed in Sub Saharan Africa and cannot effectively cope with the significant health problems of the country. The sick are often abandoned by their families who cannot afford to keep them and they end up living on the streets, their health deteriorating rapidly. HIV/AIDS is a massive issue, at any one time there are 690,000 orphaned children due to. Many of these children have inherited the disease from their deceased parents.
