To re-construct John Hope's Botanic Cottage using its original materials, to serve as an all-weather educational facility. It will provide the base for new schools education, training and community programmes. This much-needed facility will allow us to host an extra 90 schools every year.

The ‘Demonstration Garden’ area of RBGE, where children learn about the basics of horticulture and environmental issues through hands-on activity, currently has no all-weather facility. The John Hope Gateway is too far away to be practical to use. This severely limits the number of groups we can cater for, and therefore the number of children who benefit from these worthwhile practical learning projects.

We will re-construct the Botanic Cottage using its original materials to re-establish it as the education hub that it once was during the Scottish Enlightenment. This will provide a wet weather venue for the Demonstration Garden that will enable us to cater for more schools and community groups, helping us to teach more people about the importance of plants, biodiversity and the environment.
