  • The valuable life skill of practical cooking is no longer taught in our schools and hasn‚Äôt been for some time. Many schools, particularly primary schools, no longer have the facilities to teach cooking and teachers lack the specialist knowledge and confidence to teach these subjects. As a result we now have two generations who can‚Äôt cook fresh food for scratch which means they and their families are heavily reliant on convenience foods that are too high in salt, fat and sugar.

The project will work with schools, government, commercial companies, local councils and communities to develop specialist kitchens and food gardens in schools. In those facilities, children will learn how to grow and prepare fresh seasonal produce through integrated curriculum that is fun and hands on. They will be able to create a range of basic nutritious meals from scratch. Teachers will receive specialist training in the delivery of food cooking, growing and nutrition.
