Lewa Wildlife Conservancy runs 21 schools in Northern Kenya - part of our conservation through community development. Mutunyi is a primary and secondary school with 500 students. The digital literacy lab will help students improve their ability to get jobs by making them more computer literate.

  • Northern Kenya is a very poor rural area beset with problems of poverty, lack of access to education and lack of employment opportunities. By building the digital literarcy lab, the 501 students at Mutunyi school will have access to a bespoke space where they will learn how to use computers, how to harness the power of modern technology to develop the skills they need for the modern work place - skills not included as part of Kenya's curriculum.

This project will give Mutunyi students an advantage in seeking employment once they have graduated. This is particularly important for young women, for whom gainful employment after graduation can mean the difference between early marriage or an independently led life. We employ graduates of the program and incubate venture ideas particularly in the area of environmental conservation. Digitally literate workers create new jobs and employment lifts the individual and their family from poverty.
