Situation
The lack both locally (and nationally) of age appropriate, flexible provision for young adults with profound and/or complex physical & learning needs where they can learn life skills. It is generally acknowledged that children and young people with special educational needs often develop at a slower pace. At 19, young people with complex learning needs still have the potential to develop skills for living through learning and experience. The reality is that there are few options open for them.
Solution
Futures@ChaileyHeritage will offer young disabled adults from the local community and our residential centre an opportunity to continue to learn and develop life skills in a safe and caring environment so that they are more able to make choices and be better prepared for the future. It will offer accommodation and/or an opportunity to buy packages of care/activities/medical support on a daily or session by session basis.
