In Dorset, people with dementia and their families need more support and greater access to information and advice about coping with the condition. BUDI would like to run support groups and produce information packs with practical advice to guide carers through every aspect of their role.

Dorset has one of the oldest population demographics in England yet the lowest rate of diagnosis of dementia in the UK. While this sounds like a positive, it actually means that approximately two thirds of those with dementia have not yet been diagnosed and are living with the condition without the care and support that they need. It has been suggested that one of the key reasons for under-diagnosis is the lack of facilities or support for people with dementia once diagnosed.
People with dementia, their families and carers will be signposted to support throughout their journey with dementia. Support groups will include talks from specialists: dementia nurses, GPs, solicitors (for information on Wills and Power of Attorney) and a social worker (to advise on benefits and grants). There will also be practical guidance on facilities in the local area and how best to provide end of life care. All of the information shared will then be supported by an information pack.
