Roadside Reserves - Roadside verges can provide a last refuge for the plants that were once common in the flower rich meadows that formed part of our countryside. We have lost 96% of those flower rich meadows, making the remaining plant communities that survive on some stretches of roadside verge incredibly significant. This two-year project delivered by DWT on behalf of the Durham Biodiversity Partnership, will provide the staff resource needed to utilise the extensive survey work carried out by the Partnership to designate roadside nature reserves. The Trust will work closely with local authorities and parish councils and provide various opportunities for public participation in surveys and other activities.
