    Situation

Uganda has the youngest population and the world’s highest youth unemployment in the world (ages 15 to 24 were recorded at 83% in Uganda). Most of the youth live in rural areas. Despite efforts by the Government since 1997 to improve access to education and reduce youth unemployment, recent statistics show that there is still a 75% drop out rate of children from primary education leaving many unable to free themselves from the grip of hunger, poverty, disease and crime

    Solution

Amigos Uganda has been supporting Uganda’s vulnerable rural youth since 2001; Covering four key areas – environmental initiatives, vocational training, life skills training, and micro enterprise development. Up until now, the above package has been delivered through Kira Farm Training Centre (KFTC) - a residential centre. By creating TOT's going out to the villages thelessons we have learned can be applied more widely
