    Situation

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) stress the importance of improving the economic status for the world’s most disadvantaged communities. Fair trade has to date successfully lifted hundreds of thousands of people out of poverty through offering opportunities to access wider markets and to be fairly paid for production. Working with disadvantaged producers, this project aims to promote the building of successful, sustainable and efficient enterprises in Swaziland, and to support their capacity to develop cooperative networks working within fair trade principles. Improved capacity in enterprise, financial management, good governance and market access skills will enable local trade organisations to expand their markets and improve their efficiency, resulting in improved social and economic conditions for their producers. Stronger networks and increased advocacy skills will enable them to develop a stronger voice on trade related issues at local, national and international levels.
