Many of these children, who come from economically deprived backgrounds and whose parents experience the additional financial burden of bringing up a child with severe & complex disabilities and learning difficulties, are denied the opportunity for full involvement in family life and social settings due to communications difficulties. By providing a variety of communication aids, the child can try them, find the most suitable one, parents can be trained & the child can use the equipment at home

Simply providing the right piece of equipment, suitable for the child's age and ability, with the correct range of words, sentences etc, that the child will be able to operate themselves - or at least develop semi-independence to operate, the child will have increased confidence in their ability to communicate & participate in their community. Further skills - motor, understanding, "talking" - will be developed & the child will feel empowered by doing something (semi-)independently for themself.
