The mission of the Jaffa Institute is to provide educational, recreational and social enrichment programs that endow underprivileged children in Israel with a sense of self-worth so they can break the cycle of bitter poverty they were born into, and grow to be healthy, educated and productive adults

Situation
An unfortunate 50% of the Jaffa Institute's target population currently lives at or below the poverty line and 30% of them regularly receive local welfare services. In addition, both the unemployment rate and the rate of single mothers in Jaffa are double that of Israel's overall census. Unfortunately, the ones who are the most affected by these distressing statistics are the children of Jaffa and south Tel Aviv, with 53% of them dropping out of school before completing the 12th grade.
Solution
The Institute’s After School Educational Enrichment Program is geared towards 200 underprivileged children from the greater Jaffa area in grades 1-6. The program takes place at 5 Jaffa Institute program sites from September–June everyday between 1pm and 6pm. Jaffa Institute buses pick up the children from school, transport them to the program site, and then back home at the end of the day to ensure each student's safety and security.
