    Situation

The service will be free, independant and confidential and will have a team of appropriately trained paid and voluntary trained staff working alongside each other. It will expand into areas of Nottinghamshire where there is a need but also a gap as no other provider is covering this area of work. Research confirms that many of our older people now live below the poverty line yet there are millions of pounds of unclaimed welfare rights benefits going out to te people that most need them - especially older people . Our Service will inform and help people claim benefits such as pension credit, income support, incapacity allowance, disability living allowance, rent/council tax rebates, carers allowance, social fund payments, retirement pensions and bereavement benefits. We will not only hold regular "drop in" surgeries at our City centre base but also provide home visits for the more less able and housebound people. Where appropriate we will contact local advice giving services on their behalf. In addition, we will also hold information about local projects and services available from the statutory and voluntary/charitable sectors.
