As civil conflict and violence engulfs Syria, up to 7,000 people are now fleeing Syria every day. At least 4 million people have fled for safety, with over 1 million desperate refugees crossing Syria’s heavily mined borders to escape the growing violence. Most people are seeking asylum in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey. Millions are in need of shelter, medical care and other critical aid to help recover and rebuild their lives.
The IRC is running a range of projects to help Syrian refugees. In Jordan, we are supporting 14,000 refugees by offering medical care whilst also distributing blankets, sleeping mats and hygiene supplies. In Iraq, we are working to protect women who experienced violence by providing medical assistance and counselling. In Lebanon, we are helping 1,300 families pay for essentials such as rent and food. With additional support, we will be able to support 1000s more people in need.
