    Situation

War Memorials Trust works to protect and conserve war memorials in the UK. It provides advice, information and administers grant schemes that help preserve war memorials today. It is vital that younger generations understand the importance of our war memorial heritage so that they continue to preserve war memorials in the future. The Learning Programme will ensure young people learn about their war memorial heritage.

    Solution

With the death of the last British based World War I veterans in 2009, and the passing of many who served in World War II, war memorials are changing. They are becoming historical touchstones, a means to explain the past rather than remembering something experienced. The Learning Programme will ensure young people have the opportunity to understand the importance of war memorials and why they should work to ensure their preservation.
