The first few months of 2011 have served as a stark reminder of the destructive power of disasters and conflicts: a tsunami devastating Japan, the humanitarian crisis in Côte d’Ivoire forcing hundreds of thousands of families to flee their homes, and most recently the devastating drought in the Horn of Africa.
