Integrated health and social care is a real buzzword - but at Leuchie it's more than just a phrase - it's a way of life! Sadly - for people affected by one of the many long-term conditions we support - getting out and about is not always an option. The Leuchie bus means everything is accessible.

Situation
Trips and outings are a key part of the experience offered to people when they stay at Leuchie for a respite break. Most see their time as a guest at Leuchie as a holiday - allowing their carer to have some respite - and they want to enjoy it as much as possible. Many are simply unable to get out to local attractions, to enjoy a lunch out, the cinema, shops, theatre - leaving them socially isolated for up to 50 weeks in the year.
Solution
Leuchie is able to offer everyone who stays the opportunity to go on several trips or outings during a respite break. This is possible through using specially adapted vehicles that can safely transport people with a range of wheelchairs - both manual and electric and of varying sizes - opening up the world to all of them. By ensuring we have an adapted minibus which can seat 4 wheelchairs and carers we can offer more trips and further reduce social isolation and increase individual well-being.
