Our project improves access to drama training for people living in London over 60 years old, through the creation of a resident drama company of elders for active participants, supported by community activities and observing opportunities for those who wish to be passively involved.

Situation
Camden Council's Joint Strategic Needs Assessment 2010 has identified a gap in physical activity provision for the over 60s and states that adult learning should be prioritised. Given the UK's ageing population and the Office of National Statistics figures showing a large increase in the 45-64 year old age group over the next 5 to 10 years, the need for these types of services will be set to increase in the future.
Solution
As a leader in our field, RADA has a strong desire to promote positive opportunities to access drama training for all people regardless of age. The Elders Company aims to increase access to training; enable older people to achieve their potential, improve mobility, increase self confidence and reduce isolation. It will also offer an arena for social interaction, self expression and a space to exercise both body and mind.
