Currently only a small number of microfinance institutions operate in the slums of Mumbai. Their reach remains very limited, with an estimated 50,000 clients on a total slum population of 7-10 million. Slum inhabitants are true entrepreneurs but they lack access to the financial services that will help them launch their activities.
Green Shoots Foundation is partnering up with other microfinance institutions and Non-Governmental Organisations/charities to set up education loan microfinance programmes in the slums of Mumbai. These operations aim to help slums households to enroll their daughter back to school. Our objective is to provide fair and efficient financial products that will help the poor provide their daughters with a quality education.
