In many parts of London when you are told you are losing your sight you don't receive any specialist support or advice to help you come to terms with your diagnosis. We believe this is wrong and want to employ specialist support workers to help people come to terms with becoming blind.

The medical services in hospital eye clinics offer excellent diagnosis and treatment for a variety of eye conditions, but they can do little for patients with permanent sight loss. It is well recognised that the vast majority of people diagnosed with permanent sight loss gain considerable benefit from the provision of information, advice and emotional support. However, a 2009 research report found that very few patients attending London hospitals have access to such services
By providing specialist workers in clinics in hospitals across London we will be able to offer guidance in five key areas : Advice about certification and registration Information on eye conditions Emotional support Assistive technology advice Referral to other agencies
