    Situation

Aurora Ortiz is a young woman living alone who needs to work but has no qualifications and has never had a job before. Her career aspirations are simple and with the help of a friend she tries to write a CV. How can she convince an employer to take her on with no experience at all? What can she possibly put on her CV? And so she begins to talk about her life and her ideas… The story itself will be used as an inspiration for creating this work. The text will not be a literal adaptation or structured as a conventional play, but will use a combination of poetry, dialogue, narrative and single words combined with the highly developed skills of the aerialist, Matilda Leyser, director Jenny Culank and experienced deviser Hayley Carmichael to create an original piece of physical theatre. The performance piece, like the book, will take its inspiration from the idea of exploring dreams and aspirations; about how a single piece of paper (a CV) has to represent a person. As with all our previous tours, we will, in association with this production, be offering a high quality arts education package, involving workshops with young people aged 14+ . The workshops will focus on creating narratives and characters based on themes in the play, all pertinent issues for young people attempting to step into the world of paid employment. We will work with the participants, using the methods by which we have created the play, mixing real and surreal, text and non-verbal, image and ensemble, to develop a short performance piece for a student audience giving them the ability to walk away with the confidence to tackle the realisation of their own dreams and aspirations.
