Help give our band of mongooses and aardwolf a new enclosure
Categories
Situation
Francois the aardwolf came to N/a’an ku sê in October 2016 after having been found 600km north of Windhoek by a farmer; his mother having been killed by a predator. For now he is dependent on human care, but he is growing quickly and we need to build him a new home. Joining Francois in the enclosure are three bubbly banded mongooses. Snippy has been at N/a’an ku sê since 2015. He was an ex-pet whose owners realized that he really did need the most natural life possible.
Solution
Francois needs a new home. Once he reaches adulthood we will assess whether he is suitable for release, as at N/a’an ku sê we always endeavour to return the wild to the wild, only those animals too habituated remaining in captivity. And then we make certain that “captivity” resembles their wild lives as closely as possible. For now, he must remain at the sanctuary as he is too young to survive in the wild. We hope to release the baby mongooses once they are old enough.
