CoolTan arts believes in the power of creativity to enhance well-being. It is well-known that the arts can enable people with mental distress to have a better quality of life and to move back into the wider community.CoolTan arts has 17 years of experience in doing this and knows that it works, 118 people attend our workshops weekly, and 156 are on a waiting list. All our and the long term terminal illnesses, some have physical disabilities as well, some are self diagnosed, This is an exciting opportunity for us to have a building purpous built CoolTan arts is part of Londons community frabic. So to stop us being victims of rent increase, we belive owning a plush new Gallery with purpose-built workshops would enable us to set up and run our own business enabling us to become far more sustainable. The high street retailer "Dixons said that they were moving from the high Street to the Internet because of the cost of raising rents," We are an integral part of the community and want to create a facility the communioy can be proud of. Unlike retailers community projects are in for the long haul and we cannot be part of the community if we do not commit ourselves to owning fantastic spaces. The road to recovery for people with mental distress, terminal illness and drug misuse is a long one therefore CoolTan arts needs dedicated space in which to do its job. Having this building would enable us to hire out our art Gallery to other artists, community groups, the corporate sector, bar mitzvahs, and anything else you care to name. It enables the people who attend CoolTan to be in a normalising environment this is what creates people's ability to move on.
