With four children becoming registered blind every day in the UK, there is an increased demand for support for children and young people living with sight loss. There is an urgent need to grow services provided to children and their families.

We believe that no child should feel isolated, afraid or be deprived of a full life just because they have a visual impairment. Just 4.4% of blind or visually impaired children receive the educational support they need to thrive. It is a shocking indictment of our national response to disability that 70% of blind or visually impaired adults are unemployed, compared to just 8% of the UK population.

The launch of our children’s service will have an immediate impact allowing us to provide services that will support children and their families, right from birth through to young adulthood. These include practical and emotional support, information and advice as well as mobility and life-skills training. These services are vital in enabling the whole family to live life to the full. By giving parents tools, they can help their children reach important educational and recreational goals.
