The SCT currently operates two successful third-stage houses – Bridge House and Downham Lodge. These houses are 9-bedded and 8-bedded houses in Hackney and Bow providing accommodation for men who have successfully completed a primary treatment programme at Acorn House, our second stage high support rehabilitation hostel. The aim of these houses is to enable residents to continue participating in a recovery programme with far greater independence, as well as to engage with employment and training. Both houses have been renovated to a high standard and are modern and spacious throughout. In addition to their own rooms, residents have shared access to a large fully-fitted kitchen and dining area, TV lounge, laundry facilities and a large garden. All residents of our supported housing will have completed a first and second-stage rehabilitation programme from alcohol and/or drugs and have sufficient life skills to maintain a high level of independence. This includes skills in cooking, household duties, shopping and managing finances. The expected length of stay for a resident is between 18 months and two years. Residents work in conjunction with a Supported Housing Manager who plans the progress of their recovery, including therapy, employment re-training, training courses, hobbies and leisure activities. In recognition of our success with this client group, the SCT has been invited to work in partnership with a housing association, PCHA (part of Genesis Housing Group), to operate a five bedroom house in the Kingshill area of Harrow for the use of men in recovery who do not wish to remain in the boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets and are keen to make a fresh start in a new location. We have been searching for suitable housing to use as our third supported house so are delighted by this opportunity. The refurbishment of the house will cost £22,700. We will also be required to fund-raise £10,500 per year to cover the running costs of the house which will not be met by Housing Benefit payments.
