Money is fast becoming the nation’s most uncomfortable topic of discussion. It seems that we would rather talk about relationships, holidays and health rather than money. Many people have no idea how much they spend in a week, and no idea of their monthly cash flow.

    Situation

The lack of awareness of the importance of money management already has serious repercussions on other aspects of our life and the effects of financial worry and indebtedness will continue to take its toll if something is not done fast. The main aims of the DD-UK Debt Counselling, Money Education and Awareness Project are: • encourage thoughtful and informed financial decision making. Many people today are experiencing high levels of financial anxiety and are looking for answers, even though there are no guaranteed or easy solutions. There are several options that can be considered to prevent, alleviate and eventually get rid of debt and financial worry: 1. development of good financial habits 2. development of a personal budget and financial plan 3. being fully informed of the services and options available •avoid major financial mistakes, reducing financial anxiety and getting on the road to controlling your financial future. The main outputs for this very important project will be to provide support through the following main activities: • money education and financial literacy through our website, information sessions, seminars and workshops, free online debt advice, online forums, helpline and counselling sessions. •a resourceful and interactive website providing balanced information, forums for discussion and advice/counselling on money and debt - http://www.ddukonline.org/site (under development) • support, information and signposting to other sources of help. • publications (books, newsletters etc). • partnerships with other similar agencies/organisations/stakeholders to further disseminate our work. The DD-UK Debt Counselling, Money Education and Awareness Project costs for 2008 is £273.00.
