Kazzum established Pathways in 2002. This project was created with two express purposes. First, to raise awareness of the experiences of refugees and the difficulties they face. Second, to give opportunities for refugee children to express their thoughts and feelings safely through a range of arts activities – drama, circus skills, paper and book-making, storytelling, design and puppetry. Pathways is a word which suggests hope and new possibilities. Over the last 6 years Kazzum’s Pathways programme has reached 3100 young refugees from 21 refugee groups across 11 London Boroughs. We can reach more with further support. Children are of the most vulnerable. The more we can do to try and help them the better. It is important that we care and do as much as we possibly can. Several trusts, foundations and government bodies have supported ‘Pathways’ over the past five years. It is an unique art provision for London which is desperately needed and has manifold benefits in terms of the confidence, self-esteem, recovery and health of children. We are planning a number of projects for the 'Pathways' programme over the next 3 years. The programme has running costs of approximately £20,000 a year, which inlcudes workshop facilitators fees, materials, space hire, travel for participants, publicity.
